The short answer

Britain is producing more renewable electricity, but supply and demand do not always meet. Clean power can be abundant at one time or in one place, then scarce when households need it most. Distributed batteries, coordinated as one network, could capture electricity when it is plentiful and release it when demand and prices rise — including for households that cannot fund energy technology themselves.
